B Lab Nordics is part of the Danish coalition supporting the EU Citizens’ Initiative on Rights for Nature and encourages B Corps and other companies and individuals to support the initiative by signing the petition.

This is one example of how B Corps and other businesses can engage in collective action using their voice and influence to push for stronger environmental protections and governance frameworks.

What if nature had actual rights?

Europe faces interconnected ecological, social and democratic challenges. The European Citizens’ Initiative seeks the adoption of new legislation, to strengthen the European network for the Rights of Nature and to raise awareness among the European public on the need to transition towards an ecologically healthy legal and societal paradigm.

From today, citizens across all 27 EU member states can sign the European Citizens’ Initiative Rights for Nature, calling for ecosystems to be recognized as legal persons with inherent value and basic rights. Lab Nordics is proud to support this initiative as part of a growing European alliance. In Denmark, 20 organizations are already mobilizing, with support also growing in Sweden and beyond.

“For us, this connects directly to a bigger question for business: How do we move from seeing nature as a resource to recognizing nature as a true stakeholder? Supporting this EU Citizens’ Initiative is a natural extension of our work to give nature a voice and bring that voice all the way into the boardroom. With our recently launched Onboarding Nature Toolkit, we offer companies four practical models for integrating nature’s perspective into everyday operations and decision-making. We encourage both business and civil society to sign the petition and help spread this initiative,” says Gitte Rosholm, Manager, B Lab Nordics.

Explore the toolkit ‘Onboarding Nature’, created by B Lab Nordics, Märk Cph and KontraAdvokater . The toolkit presents specific Nordic cases that show how to formalise Nature’s voice and role within company governance structures, building on the work of B Lab Benelux, Earth Law Center, and Nyenrode Business University in this field.

September 2026

More than 140 participants from Nordic and international B Corps joined this year’s Nordic B Together in Copenhagen for a full day of learning and building new connections.

During this year’s Nordic B Together: The Nature of Business, we listened to nature and chose our nature stakeholder for the day, and learned how Patagonia and B Lab suggest to give nature a say in everyday business decisions. We also learned how geopolitics IS sustainability and how speaking up can be a part of fulfilling your company’s mission. We sprouted into discussions on talent, greenhushing, business models, artificial intelligence, advocacy, repairability, how to put a price on nature, and the next B Corp Month… We launched the Onboarding Nature toolkit in Danish with four practical models for how business can give nature a voice in their governance. We wrote letters to nature, met at the Bazaar and revived old Nordic folk dance traditions.

Thank you to everyone that participated – and visit the program page for videos and photos from the event.
